American Thinker Blog: Israel's Disproportionate Response

  1. My Thought is this....

Israel will continue to do this, because this is the basic tenet of Judaism, tikkun olam (repair the world). And in doing so, we'll continue to thrive. Perhaps a bit idealistic on my part, but I honestly believe that.

Our adherence to this most basic Jewish ideology explains why time and time and time again, the Jewish people prevail against their enemies. It drives everything we do; it is so deeply ingrained inside of us. We push, we persevere, we evolve (we turned a little slab of desert into on oasis), and ultimately, we kick ass.

We continue to dole out goodness and spread it to everyone despite being treated like garbage and hated by so many. It's the only way we can survive. It seems counterintiutive, right? We should insulate and isolate ourselves and not help anybody anymore, but to do that would be in total opposition to the core values of Judaism.

Israel's behavior in Haiti is (in a way) analogous to what Martin Luther King convinced people to do during the Civil Rights movement: it's a form of non-violent resistance, and now, it's being shown on international television. African-Americans in the 1960s basically sat there and took crap like it was nobody's business, without reacting violently (a very disproportionate response). It took unbelievable strength of character and determination to do that. And it worked. Israel always does this!!!

I think that is why we are still around........I have to believe that.
